Bootylicious stamps authority with dominant win
The sprint races for the remainder of the 2024 racing season have been thrown into exciting relief following Bootylicious’s strong display of speed and power on Sunday, July 14.
The Peter-John Parsard-trained filly left her rivals in the dust, when winning an Overnight Allowance contest by an impressive 6 ¼ lengths in a time of 1:00.0 (23.4 x 47.0) over five furlongs on the round course. In the process of winning the three-year-old-and-upward event, Bootylicious notched her second win of the season from five starts and her sixth career victory from 12 outings.
Parsard was effusive in his praise for his filly, hailing her as one best fillies currently racing at the park.
“Bootylicious did fantastic! She was down in class and it was always going to be difficult for her to lose here after running so competitive in Grade One company, and so we were able to take advantage of her conditions,” Parsard told the Jamaica Observer’s Supreme Racing Guide.
“She did what she was supposed to do. Sometimes harder said than done, but we were able to get the job done. We were confident going into this race and we did expect this kind of performance and she did pretty much what we expected her to do.
“As a local-bred filly, it is unfortunate in Jamaica that she has to run against so many foreigners and many colts but she will try her best and we will put her up there [in class] and see what she will do. I think she is one of the best fillies in Jamaica,” Parsard added.
As soon as the gates opened, Bootylicious shot to the lead. Chocomo (Robert Halledeen),
Rejected Raja (Kawise Gentle), and Freedom Street (Youville Pinnock) gave chase but
Bootylicious was unstoppable, dictating the pace with ease.
Bootylicious entered the drive for the last two furlongs at a merry clip, leaving her rivals in her wake. With a few cracks of the whip from Reyan Lewis to remind Bootylicious that she was still in a race, the bay filly accelerated effortlessly and powered to a convincing victory.
Money Market (Aaron Chatrie) was second and Chocomo finished third.
