It’s Moses Davis at Appleton rum festival
Dancehall icon Beenie Man promises different side for Sumfest
Dancehall legend Beenie Man is set to unveil a side to him the world has never seen when he takes the stage as Moses Davis at the 2024 staging of Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum Festival (JRF).
The Grammy Award-winning artiste will perform on July 18 alongside the Jamrock Orchestra from the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA), which has promised to present new arrangements of Beenie Man’s hits Who Am I, Romie and Girls Dem Sugar, along with “a 15-piece, non-vocal musical flair” that will feature popular Jamaican instrumentalists arranger Brinton Haughton, baritone saxophonist Tafane Buschaecab, and Othniel “Taddy P” Campbell.
“For me to perform as Moses Davis it is obviously a pleasure. It gives the fans a side of me they haven’t seen in a long time, or rarely get to see, where I will get to sing certain songs that I wouldn’t and can’t perform in a regular stage show setting. The idea of a whole acoustic band setting, that’s Moses Davis… I love to deejay, but I also love to sing, and singing consciousness is a big deal for me,” Beenie Man said.
He added: “And for me to be headlining the festival this milestone year is phenomenal. I attended one year and participated in the domino tournament, and now we’re taking all those vibes back to the festival, and more. The energy is good, because we’re maintaining the Jamaican culture. It’s a great feeling to be a headliner for the show.”
This festival will, for the very first time, form part of the Reggae Sumfest week-long festivities.
Having established itself as a market leader in combining rum education with the wider Jamaican culture, the fifth staging of the Appleton Estate JRF promises a showcase of the finest rums, culinary delights, and an unparalleled fusion of music and entertainment.
The festival will feature a blend of rum education, cuisine, and live music. The day-to-evening event will include a seminar, a food village, and an exciting and revolutionary performance at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex in Montego Bay.
This year, patrons will be treated to an unforgettable festival, doubling the excitement with an awesome two-for-one blend of events where the Appleton Estate JRF will seamlessly flow into Blitz — a high-energy entertainment session — where Walshy Fire, Bloodline Franco, Brush 1, and DJ Ashile will be keeping the crowd active on the turntables.
