Primo Green for Sumfest stage
Best known in Canadian hip hop circles, Primo Green blends that sound with reggae for I Am Stronger, his latest song, a collaboration with Norris Man.
And it perfect timing, since he makes his début at Reggae Sumfest this week.
The burly singjay is scheduled to perform on Saturday, International Night, which also features Norris Man.
While hip hop is his forte, he has recorded several reggae songs.
I Am Stronger is a personal statement and it is produced by Donfada.
“As an artiste and songwriter it’s definitely refreshing for a change of pace and being able to express the positive outlook on life. This song expresses all the obstacles and changes that I’ve been going through personally and musically. That’s why I say stronger than before,” said Primo Green.
He met Norris Man through his road manager, who has a personal relationship with the veteran roots singer. Both acts were on a Mother’s Day show in Ontario, Canada, this year and agreed to cut the track.
Primo Green was born in Canada to Jamaican parents, who constantly played the music of roots greats like Bob Marley and Dennis Brown, as well as Beres Hammond, Luciano and Capleton in their home.
He started his career as a member of EMG with two of his siblings. As a solo act, Primo Green has recorded a number of singles, while Wonderland, his first album, came out in 2018.
His sound is largely inspired by hop hop acts like DMX, Jay-Z, and Nas, but it is reggae that provides the most upliftment for Primo Green.
“Reggae music, to me, has always been at the forefront of promoting positivity, unity, and social consciousness, with its uplifting messages. It has given me hope in my darkest times,” he said.
