Bootylicious blazes to victory in Overnight Allowance thriller
IN a dazzling display of speed and power, four-year-old bay filly Bootylicious left her rivals in the dust, winning the $1.25-million, top-rated, Overnight Allowance contest by an impressive six and a quarter lengths on Sunday’s nine-race card.
Trained by Peter-John Parsard and ridden by champion jockey Reyan Lewis,
Bootylicious made one move to claim the three-year-old and upward race over five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course.
Stopping the clock in a scorching 1:00.0 (23.4 x 47.0), Bootylicious notched her second win of the season from five starts and her sixth career victory from 12 outings. This dominant performance cemented her status as a force to be reckoned with in the sprinting ranks.
“I think she is one of the best fillies in Jamaica,” Parsard told the Jamaica Observer. “Unfortunately, she has to run against the colts and the foreigners as well.”
Bootylicious burst out of the gates, taking the lead with aplomb as the field hurtled into the half-mile (800m) turn.
Chocomo (Robert Halledeen), Rejected Raja (Kawise Gentle), and Freedom Street (Youville Pinnock) gave chase but Bootylicious was unstoppable, dictating the pace with ease.
Bootylicious entered the drive for the last two furlongs on a merry clip, leaving her rivals in her wake. With a few cracks of the whip from Reyan Lewis to remind Bootylicious that she was still in a race the bay filly accelerated effortlessly and powered to a convincing victory.
Money Market (Aaron Chatrie) was second and Chocomo finished third.
Raddesh Roman was the pick among the riders with three winners. Roman won the fourth race atop Blinkin Light for trainer Gary Griffiths, the sixth on Babylove, and the seventh on So Beautiful — both trained by Anthony Nunes. The win aboard So Beautiful came in the $1.05-million John Clifton Wright Memorial Cup.
The $1.1-million PW’s Choice Trophy was won by Motivate Me Baby, trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Robert Halledeen.
Racing continues at the weekend with races on Saturday and Sunday.
