Mateo Opens in Lisbon
Mateo, a North American jewellery brand, has opened its first store in one of the most exclusive locations in the city of Lisbon. Located at Praça do Príncipe Real 24, the 75.3m2 store was designed to make each customer feel at home. From the décor with signature Portuguese motifs, to elements such as the fireplace and the seating area, each environment reflects Mateo’s light and creative spirit.
The first room, which also functions as a reception and is in fact called the Living Room, strives for simplicity and minimalism, which are also characteristics of the brand and its creator. White tones enhance collections made up of gold, silver, diamonds and other precious stones, while black tones allow for a sophisticated contrast.
The second space, known as the Salon, was designed to pay homage to Portuguese culture and tradition. Here, it is possible to find Portuguese tile decorations, where the Tagus River and Torre de Belém take on the role of protagonists; where the vintage furniture, wall colours and warm yellow curtains are reminiscent of typical Portuguese Manor Houses.
Finally, and located on the top floor of the store, we find the Mezzanine, a minimalist room from which it is possible to access the external view, more precisely of Jardim França Borges. In this room you can find highly sophisticated and contemporary pieces.
“Portugal is a very special country for me, and Lisbon is a vibrant city, focused on the future, but at the same time preserving its culture and roots. In recent years, Lisbon has been under the radar of most luxury brands, so this decision came very naturally.” Matthew Harris, founder and creative director, Mateo.
In addition to jewellery, the brand also presents collections of bags, scented candles and perfumes, all part of the small but refined Mateo universe.
