Is That A Fact’s stunning run leaves rivals in the dust
IS That A Fact, the Jason DaCosta-conditioned, American-bred, four-year-old bay colt, delivered a stunning performance to capture the $1.75-million Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame Stakes Trophy, the main attraction on Saturday’s 10-race card.
With Shavon Townsend in the saddle Carlton Watson-owned Is That A Fact showed remarkable patience and power, unleashing a stunning surge to win by 5 3/4 lengths in the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over six furlongs (1,200m).
Is That A Fact broke off well behind the leaders at the start of the feature race but recovered nicely to take fourth place behind Sensational Move (Aaron Chatrie), I Am Fred (Robert Halledeen), and Jordon Reign’s (Oneil Mullings) navigating the half-mile (800m) turn.
Townsend coaxed Is That A Fact to find another gear in deep stretch and the colt responded magnificently, weaving through the competition inside the final furlong (200m) to claim victory in convincing fashion.
Madelyn’s Sunshine (Jordan Barrett) came on late to get second place, giving Watson and DaCosta a one-two finish.
Sensational Move finished in third place. After splits of 23.4 x 47.1 the final time for the race was recorded at 1:12.2.
Tevin Foster and Raddesh Roman shared the jockey’s honour with two winners each.
Foster, the current leading rider, won the third race aboard Sugar Daddy for trainer Patrick Lynch and the seventh race aboard Di Miracle Angel for trainer Robert Pearson.
Roman was successful aboard Conundrum in the fourth race for trainer Marlon Pusey, and aboard
Trust Fund Baby for trainer Anthony “Baba” Nunes in the 10th and final event.
Racing continues Sunday with a nine-race programme. First post is at 12:30 pm.
