Pepita hopeful to cop Festival Song title
Ahead of the results show for this year’s Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Festival Song Competition, finalist Pepita Little is hopeful that she will emerge as the winner.
She entered the competition with the song We Are Jamaicans.
“I think that the song embodies everything that festival is all about, and I think I do a pretty good job of performing,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
The results show will take place at the Jamaica College Auditorium on Hope Road on July 13.
The other finalists include Auraiya Hope singing Proud Jamaican; Sister Novelette (Fi Mi Island Home); TrishMaq (Jamaica is a Big Brand); Kimiela “Candy” Isaacs (#One Jamaica); Miss Hanover Festival Queen 2023 Tricia “Trisstar” Cunningham (Jamaica Jamaica); Lex MD (Jah Love this Land); Renzzah (Waa Back Jamaica); Reggae Maxx (Better Jamaica); and Casey Donaldson (Sweet Jamaica).
The winner will walk away with a cash prize of $3 million.
The contestants had a live presentation show on June 27. According to Little, that night was memorable.
“I always wanted to sing live on TV, so it was a wonderful experience,” she said.
Little told the Observer she began singing as early at seven years old at Wolmer’s Preparatory School. She said that she has toyed with the idea of becoming a professional artiste over the years, but plans to actualise that goal in the near.
“It’s a dream of mine, so I definitely want to pursue it. I think that there’s a space for the type of music that I want to bring forward which is positive, love, motivational music,” she said.
