Florida man arrested after allegedly trying to withdraw 1 cent from bank
FLORIDA, United States — A Florida man who reportedly tried to withdraw one cent from a bank in Sumter County was arrested and is now facing a felony robbery charge in relation to the incident.
According to Fox 35 Orlando, 41-year-old Michael Fleming walked into the Chase Bank on US-441 in Lady Lake and filled out a withdrawal slip for one cent before handing it to a bank teller.
The incident happened just before 2:00 pm on Saturday.
It is reported that the bank teller told Fleming he could not withdraw a penny to which he responded, “So you want me to say the other word?”
The Fox 35 Orlando report said no other details about their conversation were revealed, however, deputies said the bank teller was fearful and called the police.
No further details were provided but the report noted that the arrest affidavit indicated the police had probable cause to believe Fleming did violate Florida’s robbery laws.
He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where he remains on US$5,000 bond, Fox 35 Orlando reported.
