US men’s soccer coach reportedly fired after Copa America first-round exit
NEW YORK, United States — Gregg Berhalter’s second term as coach of the US men’s soccer team has reportedly been cut short.
According to an Associated Press (AP) report, Berhalter was fired after the team’s first-round exit from the Copa America raised doubts about his suitability for the job ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking with AP, a source said that an official announcement from the US Soccer Federation is likely to come later on Wednesday.
The US had seven wins, six losses, and one draw in Berhalter’s second stint, leaving his overall record at 44 wins, 17 losses, and 13 draws, the AP reported.
The team is expected to play friendlies against Canada and New Zealand in September.
