NWA says 94 per cent of roads reopened
NATIONAL Works Agency (NWA) says 94 per cent of the 476 roads which were impassable following the passage of Hurricane Beryl last Wednesday now have vehicular access.
NWA Manager for Communication and Customer Services Stephen Shaw said that of this number, 39 per cent have been fully reopened while another 55 per cent have been reopened to single-lane traffic.
Shaw said that up to noon Monday there were six corridors each remaining impassable in the parishes of Hanover, Clarendon and St Andrew.
“All roads in six parishes have been reopened fully or to single lane. These parishes are Portland, Westmoreland, Trelawny, St Ann, Kingston and St Mary,” Shaw said.
“The NWA’s teams, while continuing to be impacted by connectivity issues, are making good progress with the work across the island,” added Shaw. He said teams were working to reopen all roads in the parishes of St Thomas, St Catherine, Manchester, St Elizabeth and St James.
