529 reports of roads impacted by Hurricane Beryl — NWA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) says it has received 529 reports of affected road sections in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl as at July 9.
This is over 50 more than what was reported on Monday.
Despite this increase, Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says 95 per cent of these road sections have been reopened to at least single lane access.
According to Shaw, of the reported issues, only 24 road sections remain impassable with 47 per cent fully reopened and 48 per cent of roadways having restricted access.
Most roadways that remain blocked are in St Thomas, St Andrew and Hanover.
The NWA said it hopes to have at least three of the roadways that are still impassable reopened in the next 24 hours. These roads, it said, are being impacted by fallen Jamaica Public Service Company poles.
NWA work teams have been out assessing and clearing roadways since the passage of Hurricane Beryl. The agency has made steady progress despite challenges and remains committed to restoring access to as many road sections as possible in the coming days.
