Jackson, Thompson to compete at Gyulai István Memorial
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s two-time 200 metre world champion Shericka Jackson and rising 100 metre sprinter Kishane Thompson are set to compete in their respective events at the Gyulai István Memorial on Tuesday.
The Gyulai István Memorial is an annual track and field meet that takes place in Hungary.
Jackson, the second-fastest woman in history in the 200m with a time of 21.41s, will line up against St Lucia’s Julien Alfred, the United Kingdom’s Daryll Neita, and Jamaican Lanae Tava-Thomas.
She is set to compete at the Paris Olympic Games this summer where she hopes to claim her first individual Olympic gold medal.
Meanwhile, Thompson who now ranks as the fourth fastest Jamaican man, will contest South Africa’s Akani Simbine and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo for the men’s 100 metre at the meet.
With a world-leading time of 9.77 seconds to secure victory in the men’s 100 metre national trials, Thompson trails only Usain Bolt’s world record time of 9.58, Yohan Blake’s 9.69, and Asafa Powell’s 9.72.
Tia Clayton will also compete in the women’s 100 metre event. She will be challenged by the United States’ Tamari Davis and Tamara Clark.
Clayton last week secured a spot on Jamaica’s team for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer with a stellar performance in the semi-finals of the competition where she clocked a massive personal best time of 10.86 seconds.
