Floyd’s Pelican Bar still standing despite brutal Hurricane Beryl
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Despite the damaging impact of Category 4 Hurricane Beryl which battered the island, particularly the southern parishes including St Elizabeth, Floyd’s Pelican Bar is still standing.
And, according to a post shared to the business’s Instagram story, the bar will be reopening for business soon.
“Pelican Bar is good everyone. We’ll be opening soon for business,” the account shared.
This was supported by St Elizabeth South West Member of Parliament Floyd Green who has been touring and evaluating the damage in his constituency since the passing of Beryl.
“Pelican Bar…still standing…battered not broken,” Green shared in a post to X, formerly Twitter, Monday morning.
On Sunday, Spectrum Systems credited themselves for the bar’s resilient structure.
“Spectrum Systems is proud to report that the world famous Floyd’s Pelican Bar is still standing after the passing of Hurricane Beryl! Guess why? Our Greenheart piles that support and strengthen the Palmex thatch is hurricane resistant! Floyd has reported that not a single thatch is missing,” the company said in a post to Instagram.
“The eye of the storm was no match for our wooden structure out in the middle of the ocean. Now that’s Spectrum strong!” it added.
This was endorsed by Floyd’s Pelican Bar which shared the post to their social media.
Last week, Poko Loko floating bar in Ocho Rios, St Ann received a battering from Hurricane Beryl which made it a prime target for looters who descended on the $150-million establishment last Friday, grabbing all they could for personal benefit.
