Education Ministry postpones start of summer academic year due to Hurricane Beryl
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Education and Youth has postponed the start of the National Summer Academy 2024 due to the adverse effects of Hurricane Beryl.
According to a bulletin released recently, the summer academic year which was originally scheduled to commence on July 8, has been deferred until further notice.
The summer academy aims to improve literacy and numeracy among students.
The Ministry said the decision to postpone the start of the summer programme is to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff. It also said that as it remains committed to keeping stakeholders informed, it will provide updates regarding the rescheduling of the summer academy as soon as the situation permits.
