Battered by Beryl Little Ochie to rise again
ALLIGATOR POND, Manchester — Evrol “Blackie” Christian, owner of Little Ochie Seafood Restaurant, says the devastation from Hurricane Beryl is the worst he has seen from a storm in Alligator Pond.
“Over the 30 years I have been here I have seen three storms, but this is the first one that really damage Little Ochie. Our sitting area has been completely [damaged],” Christian told the Jamaica Observer on Thursday.
He said that work has started to repair parts of the restaurant, but Hurricane Beryl has caused a major setback forcing him to cancel a seafood carnival at the popular location.
“This will take me a few days. The main building wasn’t affected. This might take me a week to clean up and to get started, but our main event, a seafood carnival for July 14, we have to cancel it, because we won’t be fully prepared and ready for July 14,” said Christian.
“I was here, but after seeing what was going on I had to leave. We could only tie down the roofs and try to be prepared, but it was overwhelming. I basically saw the wind [battering] the beachfront,” added Christian.
