WATCH: Work crew removes downed utility poles, wires on Spur Tree Hill
MANCHESTER, Jamaica—A work crew has started to remove downed utility poles and wires on the Spur Tree Hill main road in Manchester, caused by Hurricane Beryl.
Spur Tree Hill signals the border between Manchester and St Elizabeth.
Traffic continues to be diverted, this time with the help of citizens. A resident who identified himself as ‘Shortboss’ said he has been directing traffic since before dawn.
“A from 4 o’clock we deh yah a gwaan direct traffic from morning, and it a gwaan good… Is a good thing we a do fi di place. Everybody a ask bout pay, [but] we nuh want pay fi this, we just a help out a situation and make the thing run smooth,” Shortboss said.
Heavy rains and strong winds from the hurricane caused widespread damage across the area, making many roads impassable due to fallen trees and leaving numerous homes without roofs.
Member of Parliament for Southwest St Elizabeth, Floyd Green, said Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm, left many residents in the parish completely devastated.
