Shane Ellis returns to ride Crown Chaser in St Leger
Renowned jockey Shane Ellis is set to make a return to Jamaica from Canada’s Woodbine racetrack to pilot Crown Chaser in the prestigious St Leger race.
The highly anticipated event, scheduled for Sunday, July 7, 2024, will feature three-year-old thoroughbreds vying for glory over a distance of 10 furlongs.
Trainer Anthony Nunes confirmed Ellis’s booking, stating: “Yes, Shane Ellis has been officially booked to ride Crown Chaser in the upcoming St Leger.” Nunes added that Ellis will arrive on the island on Monday, July 1, allowing him sufficient time to familiarise himself with Crown Chaser ahead of the race.
Ellis, a two-time champion jockey, has a storied history of success in Classic races while partnered with Nunes.
His recent victory at Woodbine, where he skilfully guided Ambitious Lass to a win over six furlongs on June 29, demonstrates his enduring talent.
Upon his return to Jamaica, Ellis is expected to ride on St Leger race day and also compete on Monday, July 8, showcasing his expertise in the saddle.
