JEP underlines commitment to St Catherine’s cricket
For over two decades, the Jamaica Energy Partners (JEP) Group has demonstrated unwavering support for cricket through its long-standing partnership with the St Catherine Cricket Association.
This 23-year alliance has not only fostered grass-roots development but also paved the way for some of the Caribbean’s most celebrated cricketing talents to shine on the international stage.
The impact of JEP Group’s major support at the grass-roots level is evident in the success stories of players who have honed their skills locally before transitioning to the big leagues. Notable among these are batsman Rovman Powell, the current captain of the West Indies Twenty20 team, and superstar all-rounder Andre Russell, whose performances have dazzled fans worldwide, including in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL).
Reflecting on the partnership, Dr Wayne McKenzie, the president and chief executive officer of JEP Group, stated: “Our commitment to cricket goes beyond sponsorship. It’s about nurturing talent, fostering community spirit, and contributing to the rich sporting culture of Jamaica.
“We are immensely proud of the successes achieved by the players who began their journey [in St Catherine] and have gone on to represent the West Indies and other leagues on the global stage.”
McKenzie noted the recently concluded T20 World Cup in which co-hosts West Indies topped their first-round group before being eliminated at the Super Eight stage.
“Despite not advancing to the semi-finals, the Men in Maroon, under the stewardship of Rovman Powell, performed remarkably. We are thrilled to see the fruits of our efforts on the international stage,” beamed McKenzie.
Milholland Barker, president of the St Catherine Cricket Association, underlined the importance of continuing the sponsorship arrangement.
“The partnership with JEP Group has been instrumental in providing opportunities for young cricketers to develop their skills and pursue their dreams. The success of players like Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Kirk McKenzie, Nkrumah Bonner, and Kennar Lewis is a testament to the positive impact of this support. We are grateful for JEP Group’s ongoing dedication to the sport and look forward to many more years of fruitful collaboration,” Barker said.
The JEP Group’s dedication was highlighted by the attendance of representatives from the company during the three-match T20 series between West Indies and South Africa at Sabina Park in Kingston on the eve of the World Cup.
JEP Group’s show of support is indicative of its commitment to the sport’s growth and development.
Through initiatives like the partnership with St Catherine Cricket Association, the JEP Group not only supports the sport but also reinforces its mission to enrich the lives of those within the communities. By investing in cricket, the company contributes to a tradition of excellence, inspires the next generation of cricket stars, and ensures the legacy of Jamaican cricket.
