Flooding, landslides likely as tropical wave moves across Jamaica
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A tropical wave just east of Jamaica is expected to move across the country bringing with it unstable weather conditions beginning Friday.
According to the Meteorological Service’s 5:00 am local forecast, flooding and landslides are very likely as the weather conditions compile with the recent rainfall from Hurricane Beryl and the resulting ground saturation.
The Met Service said the tropical wave is producing large areas of showers and thunderstorms as it moves across the central Caribbean.
Additionally, it said increasingly windy conditions are expected to begin on Saturday due to the presence of a low-level jet stream.
The Met Service said Jamaicans can expect isolated showers across sections of south-central and eastern parishes Friday morning while in the afternoon, cloudy conditions with widely scattered showers and thunderstorms across sections of most parishes are forecast with wind along coastal areas.
In the night, there should be isolated showers, especially across sections of southern and northeastern parishes, the Met Service said.
