Tribal politics undermines our political system
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my concern about the recent actions and rhetoric of the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP).
It is becoming increasingly evident that their utterances are walking a very thin line, bordering on tribal politics. This approach is not only outdated but also detrimental to the progress we have made as a nation.
Jamaica has long moved past the days of low, dirty politics, characterised by divisive and tribal tactics. Our country deserves a political discourse that focuses on policies, development, and the welfare of all Jamaicans rather than one that seeks to divide us along lines of party allegiance.
What is particularly disappointing is the constant stream of disinformation and misinformation from the Opposition party. Such behaviour is counterproductive and erodes public trust. The Jamaican people deserve to hear the truth, but the Opposition’s utterances shroud and prevent the public from recognising the significant work and progress being made by the Government.
The PNP, as a major political entity, has a responsibility to contribute positively to our democratic process. Resorting to tribal politics undermines the integrity of our political system and does a disservice to the Jamaican people who expect and deserve better from their leaders.
It is time for all political parties to elevate the conversation and engage in constructive dialogue that prioritises the needs and aspirations of the Jamaican people. We must hold our politicians accountable and demand that they rise above petty politics and work towards a unified and prosperous Jamaica.
