WATCH: Bunting says he is disappointed with JPS, NWA response
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — People’s National Party representative for Manchester Southern, Peter Bunting says he is disappointed with the response of Jamaica Public Service (JPS) and National Works Agency (NWA) in Manchester, one of the parishes most affected by the recent passage of Hurricane Beryl.
Bunting, who says he has been on the roads since morning, claims that he has not seen one JPS or NWA response vehicle.
“I am very disappointed that I have been on the road from morning and I have not encountered one JPS repair truck. We’re on the main road, the main east-west corridor at Spur Tree, there is a pole here blocking the road. There are a number of poles that have been broken, JPS poles, and being up and down from morning on roads, I have not seen one JPS vehicle, I’ve not seen one NWA vehicle,” the PNP representative said.
Bunting noted the weather has been clear all morning and claimed there is nothing preventing the operations from taking place.
“I would have expected that vehicles would have been pre-positioned, particularly knowing that Clarendon, Manchester and St Elizabeth were the areas that the meteorologists would have predicted would have been most heavily impacted. So I am very disappointed today,” Bunting said.
He is calling on the agencies to clear downed utility poles and debris from major roads in Manchester urgently.
