Fuel supply adequate, says Petrojam
THE State-owned oil refinery Petrojam Tuesday assured the country that it has an adequate supply of fuel to serve the nation should Hurricane Beryl affect the island in the coming days.
In fact, the company said it has two to three weeks’ supply of finished petroleum products.
“We have activated our emergency preparedness and response plan for the hurricane and have taken the relevant steps to ensure there is uninterrupted fuel supply to the market,” said Petrojam General Manager Telroy Morgan.
“We have been in preparation mode since May, which is observed nationally as Hurricane Preparedness Month,” he said.
Morgan said that the company extended the opening hours of the loading racks in Kingston and Montego Bay to facilitate adequate access to fuel supplies. “We have advised our customers to stock up on fuel if the weather system is confirmed to make landfall and to update us on any special supply needs,” said Morgan.
The company said it was also on standby to address emergency supply issues for hospitals and other critical facilities. All critical facilities, Petrojam said, should ensure they have products reserved for at least five days in case roads become inaccessible.
