Singer Aiesha is heading to the Caribbean Music Awards
When the second annual Caribbean Music Awards takes place next month, singer Aiesha will be among those walking the red carpet.
Aiesha, who is the daughter of the late Aston “Family Man” Barrett, revered musician and former band leader of The Wailers, is nominated in the Best New Artiste (Reggae) category.
“I’m truly honored and blessed that my hard work is being recognised. This nomination signifies growth in my career,” Aiesha shared in an interview with Observer Online.
The Caribbean Music Awards is scheduled to take place on August 29 at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York.
Aiesha earned the nomination based on the release of her debut EP Cleopatra, which was released by Yardstyle Entertainment. The project features seven songs including the collaboration Gimme Gimme with veteran deejay Mad Cobra.
“Yes, I will be attending the awards ceremony, and I will also be on the red carpet on my eyelashes,” she said with a grin.
Aiesha has been busy working on several projects. She contributes the song Delight, which is featured on Sean Paul’s Dutty Rock Productions’ latest project, the Brimstone rhythm.
She said she was happy to have worked with Sean Paul and his team.
“I was very nervous and grateful at the same time. I wasn’t sure which direction to go with the song at first because the riddim was still being created. I started writing and got blockers, my friend Kellz who is a great artist and songwriter helped me, he was amazing and together we were able to create something amazing. I wasn’t sure how Sean was going to feel about it, but he loved it and it was history after that,” Aiesha explained.
She explained the inspiration behind Delight.
“I was in a situationship, and it was getting intense, my significant other and I weren’t around each other much. I was touring with The Wailers a lot and crazy busy. We were getting closer but scared at the same time. I was in Australia and the distance between us made me realize I was needing him more than ever. It was a different type of missing connection, so the song was a form of internal communication. I needed to let the emotions and feelings out,” said Aiesha.
Aiesha who has worked with American multi-award winning and platinum selling producer Timbaland, recently worked with Buju Banton on a new project.
“I’m working on a new EP, which will showcase a different side to Aiesha. More R&B lovers rock seductive and charming style. You gotta stay tuned to that,” said Aiesha.
