#EyeOnBeryl: Jamaicans to get free toll access from 6:00 pm to midnight
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says he’s about to sign a ministerial order under the Toll Authority to allow for free access of highways east-west and north-south between 6:00 pm and midnight on Tuesday.
Vaz expressed that the decision comes amid congested roadways as Jamaicans scurry to get final preparations done before Hurricane Beryl makes landfall on Wednesday.
“This is to allow people to move around, making last minute arrangements especially with the roads as congested as they are. We want persons to access the highways to get home earlier and safer to prepare for the impending hurricane,” he said.
Jamaica is expected to take a direct hit as Beryl nears the island as a strong category four hurricane.
