All In A Year
Exactly one year after they began to date, educator Moniqueca Campbell wed banking analyst Sebastian Reid. The vows were exchanged on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Boone Hall Oasis.
The two were introduced whilst at high school through their tight-knit circle. After graduation, Sebastian went to study in Florida and even though apart, Moniqueca, still residing in Jamaica, knew she wanted Sebastian in her life, even just as friends.
“I saw the type of man he was going to be… he was, and still is, fun to be around, very extroverted and the life of the party. He is a man of substance, godliness, humility…He was caring, compassionate and very consistent,” Moniqueca told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).
The two had grown distant because of the separation but still participated in friend group activities like game nights via Zoom and link-ups whenever someone visited the island. By this time, thoughts of a romantic relationship between the two seemed impossible even with friends trying to play Cupid.
Hoping for it to be the right time, Moniqueca pushed doubts about long-distance relationships aside, and told Sebastian about her attraction to him. Sebastian, still overseas, knew he had deep romantic feelings for her and any doubts went through the window.
“I didn’t think I was ready for a relationship and I didn’t think Moniqueca would be interested. I enjoyed spending time with her so much and decided to be content with that for now. When she confessed her feelings for me a few months later, it was really easy to see myself spending my life with Moniqueca,” Sebastian told TSV.
The proposal
Sunday, June 4, 2023, Sebastian hosted Moniqueca’s birthday dinner-cum-proposal at Chez Maria in Barbican.
Moniqueca was greeted by a table full of the couple’s friends and loved ones. Sebastian, on one knee asked the love of his life for her hand in marriage and Moniqueca tearfully said yes!
The ceremony
Before God and their loved ones, Reverend Errol Rhule declared the couple husband and wife at Boone Hall Oasis. For the wedding theme, the couple selected two of their favourite colours: pink and gold. Moniqueca walked up the aisle to her original song You, Me and Jesus gorgeous in a Brinkley Lynette gown designed by Maggie Sottero. Her bridegroom was dashing, wearing a full white suit from Bar III RTW with a pink tie.
Witnessed by their closest friends and family, with bridal party members including Ajayda Wright, Mikael Larmond, Rajiv Graham, Howard Bingham, Jessann Pinnock, Nastasia Reid-Graham, Kristan Russell, and Antonique Wilson, the couple shared their heartfelt vows and enjoyed a playful yet intimate wedding reception.
Despite the inclement weather, the reception was filled with warm love, support and sheer excitement. Shornette MacPherson sung I Choose You by Sara Bareilles during the signing of the register. The couple sealed their public commitment with a kiss and even though they had only been dating for a year, this special day was about to be the beginning of their lasting love.
The newly-weds enjoyed their honeymoon at Hibiscus Lodge, Ocho Rios.
