Reggae Boyz whipped 3-0 by Venezuela, finish pointless at Copa
For the third time in their history, the Reggae Boyz end a Copa America campaign without a point as they went down 3-0 to Venezuela at the Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas on Sunday evening.
Head Coach Heimir Hallgrimsson made four changes to the team that lost to Ecuador with Michael Hector, Renaldo Cephas, Jon Bell and Wes Harding getting the nod ahead of Shamar Nicholson, Di’Shon Bernard, Dexter Lembikisa and Greg Leigh.
After a goalless first half, the Jamaicans conceded within the first five minutes of the second half as Eduard Bello’s header at the back post went pass goalkeeper Jahmali Waite.
Things got worse seven minutes later as Solomon Rondon bodied off Michael Hector and slotted home from close range to make it 2-0.
Venezuela added more misery in the 85th minute when Eric Ramirez beat the offside trap and comfortably slotted the ball pass Waite.
The Jamaicans finish bottom of the group with 0 points, matching their records in the 2015 and 2016 edition of the tournament. Venezuela top the group with 9 points and advance to the quarterfinals where they will play Canada.
The Reggae Boyz will now turn their attention to the Concacaf Nations League which kicks off in September.
