#NationalTrials: Nugent breaks national record, takes world lead in 100m hurdles
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Ackera Nugent broke the national record in the 100m hurdles on Sunday, storming to a brilliant 12.28 seconds (0.5m/s) to win at the JAAA National Championships at the National Stadium.
The time broke the previous national record 12.31 seconds set by Britany Anderson at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon in 2022. With the time, Nugent took over the World Lead from France’s Cyrena Samba-Myela who ran 12.31 seconds.
Nugent’s previous best was 12.43 seconds set in May 2023.
Nugent, who was a finalist at the World Championships in Budapest last year, will be joined by two-time World Champion Danielle Williams who ran 12.53 seconds to make her first Olympic team, and 2019 World Championships finalist Janeek Brown who ran 12.61 seconds.
Megan Tapper, bronze medallist at the last Olympic Games in Japan in 2021, was fourth in 12.69 seconds. She was followed by Oneka Wilson who ran a personal best 12.70 seconds, Demisha Roswell who ran 12.75 seconds and Paula Salmon who ran 12.92 seconds.
