#NationalTrials: Cope and Belvit win hammer throw titles
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Daniel Cope and Erica Belvit won their respective men’s and women’s hammer throw titles on Sunday morning at the JAAA National Championships at the national stadium.
It was the second title for either, as Cope had won his first in 2022 and Belvit, her first, in 2021.
Cope, who has a season’s best 63.42m while representing Clemson University, and a personal best of 64.86m, had a best of 59.78m on Sunday to take the title.
He went over 59.00m twice and just fouled what looked to be a throw in excess of 61.00m in the final round.
Belvit threw a season’s best 68.28m to beat national record holder Nayoka Clunis who got out to 66.63m while Marie Forbes was third with 63.14m.
