How much do I love you Lord?
Father Ho Lung
Columns, Opinion
June 30, 2024

How much do I love you Lord?

Like a child I answer, I love you Lord with all my heart and soul, my mind and my strength. There is nothing that I leave behind that is mine. All that I am and all that I have belong to you; everything, everything, my life, my breath, my love, my freedom and my intellect. All that I have is yours, nothing that you have given me do I hold back. All I ask of you is that you love me. I ask you, Lord that even my sins, my weaknesses, my follies, my foolishness; you take them to yourself, into your wounds, your crucified body and forgive all the wrongs that I have done.

I want to give you everything that I am. Tell me what you want of me, but give me so that I give to you. I cannot give to you what I do not have, I want to give you so much Lord, more than I am of myself which is not much. But what you have given me is so much, I cannot believe how much you have given me because what I have given to you and your kingdom amazes me and fills me with joy.

I want to yield to you everything that I am and everything you wish of me. Sometimes I think you do not know how weak and sinful I am and you ask me
— a sinful, weak beggar and sinner
— to bring forth much for your kingdom. I do little but I yield much: I want to shout to the Lord, I want to yell out how much I love you and how great you are. I want to tell you, my brothers and sisters, that God is so great and so good. You must give Him everything, and hand over everything that you are and He will give to you much more than you could ever of yourself produce and give.

How much do you love the Lord? Think of the words that Jesus said to Peter at the seashore after the time of His resurrection. Peter is a sinner, Peter denied Him three times. “Before the cock crows, three times you will deny me.” Now, I ask you men and also all you holy women, “Peter, do you love me?” He answers, “Yes Lord, I do love you”. Three times Peter has denied Christ. Now Jesus asks Peter a second time, “Peter, do you really love me?” Like Peter, you and I will answer, “Yes Lord, I really love you”. And a third time, Jesus asks Peter once again, “Peter, do you really love me?” Peter is pained as well as all of us, because we know our sins and procrastinations, we say to the Lord, “Lord, you know everything; Lord, you know that I love you.” The Lord answers, “Then feed my lamb and feed my sheep.” Then Peter and Jesus eat breakfast together; just as I eat the Eucharist, the body and blood of Jesus each morning with my brothers and we promise to serve each other and serve the poorest of the poor.

“You have asked me Lord how much I love you. I have given you everything Lord, I am in communion with my brothers. We will continue to serve the poor, we will give you everything. Our work is our prayers in the service of you My Lord and My God. I sing for you this song the Lord has given me:

I WILL SERVE YOU

I will serve you, my sweet Jesus,

My beloved lord who leadeth me.

I will serve you, my sweet Jesus,

I will serve you till I die.

I give praise to you, praise to you,

Praise to you, Lord my God,

Honour you, sing to you,

Die for you, live for you,

Die for you, oh my Lord.

Though someday I will never see

Stars nor the sun again.

Though someday I will die

And I’ll never see friends again.

Though I know that my blood

Will be poured,

And I’ll pass from this life,

I will serve you to the end.

You are Jesus, my beloved,

My beloved Lord who leadeth me.

You are Jesus, my beloved,

My beloved Lord is He.
