Govana goes for Legacy
Dancehall artiste Govana has officially released his sophomore project, Legacy.
The artiste said the 12-track project depicts his versatility.
“This album has more of a blend, in comparison to the first one. I think this one tells a story. The production on this one is higher, and the collaborations are more… the first album was more of a reggae vibe, and conscious collaborations,” Govana told the Jamaica Observer at the official album launch, which was held at the Courtyard at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre on Thursday.
It features collaborations from Popcaan, Jada Kingdom, Aidonia, Skeng, and Mavado, with Chimney Records serving as executive producer.
The launch was hosted by Tricia “ZJ Sparks” Spence, and saw appearances by Aidonia, Popcaan, and even Govana’s mother, Sonia Eccleston, who declared how proud she was of her only son.
Meanwhile, Govana said that the project — which took approximately one year to be completed — also deliberately features raunchier songs.
“I can’t do the same thing over and over. The only thing I want to do forever is be successful. I want to evolve, and do something different. So, none of my albums are going to sound the same. Everything is going to be unique in their own way,” he said.
Govana’s real name is Romeo Nelson. The popular deejay grew up in Spanish Town, St Catherine, and attended St George’s College in Kingston.
His debut album, Humans And Monsters Are Not The Same (H.A.M.A.N.T.S.), was released in 2020.
Meanwhile, producer David Hayle of Chimney Records said it was a seamless experience compiling what he believes will be a successful album.
“Since we and Govi are so close, and everyone else that collaborated are so close, it was like doing what you do all the time, but more intense with a focus. So, essentially, there was a specific goal in mind. It wasn’t forced, at all. Every day, we just worked on it,” Hayle told the Observer at the launch.
