Digital One looks a safe bet in Division 1 of Hubert Bartley Memorial Trophy
HUBERT “Chinna” Bartley, one of the top riders who dominated the racing scene at Caymanas Park in the 1980s and 1990s, will be honoured with a memorial trophy race on tomorrow’s 11-race card.
Bartley, a three-time champion jockey (1983, 1986, and 1991), won 751 races during his illustrious career, including four Jamaica 1000 Guineas, two Jamaica Derby, and six Jamaica St.Leger victories. He also rode several Grade One winners, including for the three-year-old Governor’s Cup.
The Hubert “Chinna” Memorial Trophy, a three-year-old and upward contest at the Overnight Allowance level, will be run in two divisions, each with a purse of $1.25 million.
Below is the analysis of the nine runners down to compete in Division One.
1. BURLAP: (4 b c by Casual Trick – Fedora) – Came home in third place by six lengths behind Inspire Force and Milos over 5½ furlongs on March 25. With the extension in journey, Burlap should go home earning again.
2. MARCH AND SHOOT: (5 b h by Nasheet – Lead Vale) – Has not shown any promising results in his four starts at this level.
March and Shoot is unlikely to win, based on current form.
3. NOMOREDEALS: (5 ch h by Soul Warrior – Thornhill Miss) – Has no realistic chance of winning.
4. JOHNCROWJEFF: (6 b g by Natural Selection – Sweetyourock) – Is going to be left behind in this one. Note: Tongue tie is off.
5. MILOS: (4 b c by Casual Trick – The Vibes lady) – Finished in second place for his last two outings. While those runs were shorter distances,
Milos is, nevertheless, expected to run well here.
6. BIG BIG DADDY: (7 dkb h by Natural Selection – Just A Flutter) – Can safely be bypassed. Note: Visor and tongue tie are off.
7. SHE’S MY FRIEND: (5 b h by Natural Selection – My Friend Lucy) – Has been struggling to find form at late.
She’s My Friend steps down in class to compete here and could run an improved race.
8. POWER: (5 ch h by Bal A Bali – Swify Fox) – Only in here to test the depth of the water.
9. DIGITAL ONE (USA): (3 b f by Uncle Lino – Legal Redemption) – Without a doubt, the horse to beat here.
Digital One has raced two times this season so far, finishing in third places both times. She was 5½ lengths behind Wall Street Trader over six furlongs on May 5 and was 5¾ lengths behind Easy As ABC over one mile on June 8. With two races under her belt this season Digital One is expected to be in top form and ready to take the lead and win.
