#NationalTrials: Shakur Williams leads qualifiers in men’s 100m
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Shakur Williams ran a season’s best 10.25 seconds (-1.2m/s) to lead the seven qualifiers into Thursday evening’s first round of the men’s 100m as the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) Nationals Senior and Junior Championships got underway at the National Stadium under rainy conditions.
The former Meadowbrook High ISSA Champs finalist and recent graduate of the University of Albany, won the second of nine heats, beating Ricquan Graham of Baylor University who ran 10.63 seconds.
They will be joined by Michael Sharpe of GC Foster who ran 10.59 seconds (-0.9m/s), Rasheed Foster of the Mico University who also ran 10.59 seconds (-2.1m/s), Mario Williams of MVP Track Club- 10.60 seconds (-4.3m/s), Jayval Wright of the University of the West Indies – 10.60 seconds (-2.8m/s) and Champs Class 1 100m champion Damor Miller of Excelsior High 10.65 seconds (-0.9m/s).
Nishon Ebanks of MVP and Adrian Kerr also ran 10.65 seconds but were edged out when the times were taken down to thousands of a second.
They will join the other 26 runners who were placed in the first round which is set to get underway at 8:45pm.
