JPS addressing power outages caused by unusual high winds
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says it is currently addressing outages in some sections of the island which were caused by the unusually high winds impacting the electricity distribution system.
The power company said in a release on Thursday that while there are teams working to restore power to those affected, there are some areas that are still without electricity.
The parishes most affected by power outages are Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon and St Elizabeth, the release said.
“Restoration of areas is highly dependent on the weather conditions, and nature of the defects, upon arrival of the crews to these outage locations,” JPS warned, adding that in some extreme cases detached zinc sheets have come into contact with power lines.
JPS said however that some customers can expect to have their power restored by the end of the day as the teams continue to carry out work.
