Freak storm downs trees, causes power outages across Corporate Area
Strong wind gusts across the Corporate Area on Wednesday afternoon caused power outages, downed trees and left at least one vehicle damaged.
The freak storm started around 1pm and lasted for around 15 minutes.
“Mi nearly blow away, me and mi two box food dem… I had to hang on to the water bottle under my arm,” one St Andrew resident told Observer Online.
The weather event coincided with the expected arrival of a wave of the Saharan Dust across the central Caribbean including Jamaica.
There have so far been no reported injuries due to the freak storm. However, Observer Online has received reports of damage to homes and at least one motor vehicle, which was reportedly damaged after a tree fell on top of it in the Constant Spring Area.
There was also brief interruptions in power services in some areas, including Duhaney Park, Maverley and Cross Roads.
