Devon House ice cream secures new location in Spanish Town
Scoops Unlimited, the producer of Devon House ice cream, is expanding its footprint to Spanish Town, St Catherine.
The company has leased a space at the New Brunswick Village residential and commercial complex — a development recently launched by Sagicor Group on Brunswick Avenue. It will mark the eighth location for the brand islandwide.
“Devon House is excited to be part of the New Brunswick Village development, mainly because of its location. Spanish Town is an area where we have a large customer base and so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to open a store here to bring our products closer to ourcustomers,” Director Matthew Clarke said during the official launch of the complex last Wednesday.
Clarke estimates that Devon House Spanish Town will open its doors around mid-to-late summer.
“We will be offering discount day where customers can enjoy their favourite ice cream at a lower cost,” he said.
The launch of the new store comes amid a push by Scoops to diversify its revenue stream while simultaneously meeting the demands of consumers. The company entered the pre-packaged segment of the retail market earlier this month through a distribution arrangement with Wisynco Group Limited.
It has released five flavours – coconut, grapenut, Devon stout, fruit nut, and rum and raisin — in 16oz ice cream tubs, all of which are now available in supermarkets, gas stations, and convenience stores islandwide.
Prior to Scoop’s launch into the pre-packaged market, customers were only able to purchase the ice creams in-store.
Clarke said that based on research conducted by the company, there was an overwhelming demand for Devon House ice cream’s availability in supermarkets and similar locations. He added that accomplishing that goal would significantly increase the company’s reach throughout the island, making the product more easily accessible to all Jamaicans.
“We are excited to be part of this new development, it’s a very integral part of the economic growth of Spanish Town,” Clarke said.
New Brunswick Village is one the latest developments in the old capital which is said to be attracting increased investor interest as crime in the area trends down.
