Sandals develops ‘stewards of the environment’
AS Sandals Resorts continue to lead in environmental stewardship, Sandals South Coast and Sandals and Beaches resorts in Negril recently hosted a seminar focused on environment, health, and safety (EHS) best practices.
The one-day seminar brought together the resorts’ Earth Guardians — the team members who assist in community development on an environment and health level — to discuss emerging trends and innovative solutions in promoting sustainability and ensuring the well-being of guests, staff and their respective communities.
Attendees had the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions and activities on various topics including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedures for both adult and children, first aid for choking, resource conservation, recycling and upcycling — which highlighted innovative approaches to waste reduction.
The seminar also showcased Sandals South Coast’s sustainability and safety efforts, highlighting initiatives such as the resort’s bailer unit, herb garden, reclaimed water facility and many other eco-friendly practices and comprehensive safety protocols.
Additionally, the participants explored practical solutions for minimising environmental impact on their respective resorts while maximising operational efficiency.
“We are delighted to have hosted this informative seminar, which provided a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration in the critical areas of environment, health, and safety. Sandals recognises the importance of integrating sustainable practices with health and safety measures to create a holistic experience for our guests and employees,” said Vilma Smith, environment, health and safety manager at Sandals South Coast.
In the meantime, Earth guardian from Sandals South Coast, Abigail Spencer added that the session was effective as it re-energised both her and her fellow colleagues, pushing them to think outside of the box.
“This was an amazing experience for all of us, not only did it help to refresh our memories through the training sessions, but also bolstered the passion we have for protecting our environment and playing our part in ensuring our natural resources and communities will be around for the benefit of future generations, ” Spencer said.
The seminar concluded with a commitment from participants to continue fostering partnerships and implementing innovative strategies to further enhance EHS practices within the hospitality industry and communities.
