Davison confident going into Olympic trials
Jamaican sprinter Sandrey Davison believes he’s in excellent shape heading into next week’s National Championships and is now aiming to clock his first sub-10 time, with the goal of securing a spot on the country’s team for next month’s Paris Olympic Games.
Davison, 21, who moved from the Elite Performance Track Club to the Michael Frater-led Dynamic Track Club earlier this year, has shown significant improvement under Frater’s guidance, lowering his personal best from 10.19 in 2023 to 10.13 this year.
Oblique Seville from Racers Track Club is the fastest Jamaican in the 100m this season with his personal best time of 9.82, achieved at the Racers Grand Prix on June 1. Davison, known for his versatility, also boasts a personal best of 20.84 in the 200m event. He told the Jamaica Observer that he is unfazed by his competitors and is solely focused on securing his spot in Jamaica’s Olympic team.
“Things have been going great and first and foremost, I want to thank God because I have come a long way this season and I am grateful for where I am now going into the National Trials,” said Davison.
“I am looking forward to doing some damage at the Trials but I am taking it one step at a time. I feel like I should have achieved a sub-10 time already, but I have had some disappointing runs but hopefully, it will happen at the Trials,” he stated.
The former standout from St Catherine High School also expressed that coach Frater has diligently worked with him to refine his racing technique, leading to significant improvements. Davison said this has left him feeling very optimistic ahead of the National Championships scheduled from June 27-30 at the National Stadium.
“I’m feeling very confident at the moment and I know that with proper execution, I can achieve great things at the Trials,” he said. “Honestly, I don’t have anything to lose because everything is there to be gained. So, I am focused on myself and not paying attention to what fans and others are saying, just concentrating on executing well on the day,” Davison added. “My training has been great, there have been a few minor setbacks with injuries, but overall, my body feels good, and I trust everything is in God’s hands,” he noted.
