SAJPA to host annual Poppy Appeal Fundraiser in support of Jamaica Legion
The St Andrew Justice of the Peace Association (SAJPA) is hosting its Annual Poppy Appeal Fundraiser, set to take place on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the Stella Maris Church Hall, 62 Shortwood Road, Kingston 10.
This event, staged in partnership with the Jamaica Legion Poppy Appeal and the Jamaica Defence Force, aims to raise funds in support of indigent military veterans.
According to a press release, attendees will be treated to a spectacular performance by the Jamaica Military Band, led by Director of Music Lieutenant R Salazar and Band Master Warrant Officer Class One P Johnson, along with other notable performers including DiMario McDowell. The evening promises to be an entertaining and meaningful experience for all.
Tickets are currently on sale at the SAJPA Office for $1,500 per person. In addition to the musical performances, patrons can purchase cakes, drinks, and memorabilia. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Jamaica Legion Poppy Appeal. Custos Ian Forbes, JP, will serve as the event’s Patron.
The SAJPA has a long-standing tradition of supporting the Poppy Appeal. Last year, $1 million was donated to the worthy cause. Over the past five years, the annual Poppy Appeal fundraiser has significantly contributed to the upkeep of the Curphey Home for military veterans in Manchester.
Michelle Henry, JP, Chair of the SAJPA Poppy Appeal Committee, emphasised the importance of the event.
“The Poppy Appeal is a vital initiative that helps us honour and support those who have served our country. Our veterans have given so much, and it is our duty to ensure they receive the care and respect they deserve. We encourage everyone to come out and support this noble cause,” Henry said.
Remembrance Day, observed on November 8, commemorates the soldiers who fought in the two world wars. The Jamaica Legion Poppy Appeal, the fundraising arm of the Jamaica Legion, is dedicated to the care of indigent military veterans.
