Traz Di Jennik keeps it ‘Burning’
After flirting with soca during the recent carnival season, singjay Traz Di Jennik returns to familiar territory with Burning, a song he recorded several years ago for an independent German company.
The roots-reggae track was officially released on May 30 by his RRC Entertainment and Soulfyah Productions, a German label that specialises in hip hop and reggae.
“This song is really about di crisis with people not getting a proper salary an’ every day di food prices going up. People barely getting by on minimum wage,” Traz Di Jennik explained.
Burning is the follow-up to Party Nice, a soca song released in March. He co-produced that single with Trevor “Skatta” Bonnick and his wife Lydia Campbell and promoted it throughout the carnival season which began in April.
Traz Di Jennik began his music career during the 1990s as Alkatraz, recording mainly dancehall songs. Party Nice was a welcome change in direction.
“It broadened my audience, and it has been fun trying a new genre of music,” he said.
Bonnick, long-serving lead singer for the Inner Circle band, helped guide Traz Di Jennik during his early years in the music business. As Alkatraz, he cut several songs for leading producers such as Steely and Clevie and Donovan Germain of Penthouse Records.
