Reggae Girlz’ Jody Brown joins Benfica Football Club
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Reggae Girlz player Jody Brown has signed her first professional contract with Portuguese giants, Benfica Football Club.
This achievement will see Brown joining her national team captain Khadija Shaw in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League next season.
Brown, who has represented Jamaica at every level, recently graduated from college in the United States with a first degree.
Making the announcement via Instagram, she shared that she was honoured to join Benfica and thanked her support team who helped her to achieve her dream.
“Becoming a professional player has been my dream since I started playing soccer as a kid in Jamaica, and I can’t wait to win many titles with this club,” Brown said.
In congratulating Brown, the Jamaica Football Federation said, “This signing augurs well for Jody’s personal development and the development of the national team. Jody is a national treasure. She is young but very experienced and Benfica has done well to get her signature. I hope she scores countless goals.”
Former global ambassador Cedella Marley also offered her congratulations to Brown stating, “Keep the fire burning… we are so proud of you.”
