Herbert Morrison win ISSA Rural Under-14 basketball
Herbert Morrison Technical rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Manchester High 30-23 in the final of the ISSA Rural Area boys’ Under-14 basketball competition played at the St Elizabeth Technical High School complex in Santa Cruz on Friday.
After trailing by a point after the first quarter, Manchester High led at half-time and the teams were tied at the end of the third quarter before the Montego Bay-based school produced their best quarter of the game to take the title.
In the third place play-off, Knox College outscored Cornwall College 25-14 over the last two quarters to win 44-34.
In the final, Alexander Corrodus scored 11 points and had eight rebounds, and Michael Johnson scored eight points for Herbert Morrison, who were ahead 5-4 after the first quarter.
Manchester High took over the lead in the second quarter and led 14-13 at half-time, but the teams were tied at 18-all going into the fourth quarter in which Herbert Morrison outscored Manchester High 12-5.
Knox College got off to a fast start and led 15-7 after the first quarter, led 19-17 at half-time, and were up 30-21 at the end of the third quarter, as Cornwall College’s Nathan Hines scored a game-high 23 points.
