Florida teen killed in standoff with police after fatally shooting parents
FLORIDA, Jamaica — A Florida teen who reportedly shot and killed his parents was later fatally shot during a standoff with the police team that responded to a 911 call from his mother before she was murdered.
The teen also injured a police deputy during the incident, which took place Saturday, June 15 about 11:00 pm in Tampa, Florida.
The deceased parents have been identified as 48-year-old Rebecca Ann Themelis and 51-year-old Christos Byron Themelis.
According to a People Magazine report, the caller told dispatchers that her husband had been shot. Dispatchers reportedly heard shots being fired while on the call. Five deputies were sent to the location.
The report said that when the police arrived the suspected gunman, 19-year-old Christos Alexander Themelis Jr, and his mother Rebecca were found outside of the home. The suspect then shot his mother and fired shots at the deputies, People Magazine reported.
It noted that upon returning fire, the suspect retreated inside the house. The deputies later discovered him to be dead when they entered the home.
One of the deputies received a gunshot wound to his leg but is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery on Monday, the report said.
