May Sellington now a winner of two races
May Sellington’s persistence and determination finally paid off on Saturday, June 15, 2024, as the four-year-old bay filly secured her second career win from 18 starts in the opening event.
May Sellington’s victory was achieved in a native-bred four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upward (maiden) fillies and mares at six furlongs.
Jockey Paul Francis broke May Sellington well at the start of the race and settled the Ryan Darby trainee in third place behind Miss Lynton (Roger Hewitt) and Sugar Sugar (Jerome Innis).
May Sellington made her move by powering into second place at the half-mile before surging to the front, full of running approaching the distance. With no real challenger coming forward in deep stretch, May Sellington went on to score a convincing nine-length victory.
Simply Sensational (Oshane Nugent) and Princess Akilah (Josue Osorio) trailed behind, taking second and third place, respectively. The final time for the race was 1:16.1 (23.4 x 49.0 x 1:02.2).
