Cuthbert-Flynn denies PNP VP Ian Hayles’ ‘prison-building’ allegations
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Member of Parliament for West Rural St Andrew, Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, has dismissed allegations made by People’s National Party (PNP) Vice President Ian Hayles that the Jamaica Labour Party administration is building “three prisons” in Westmoreland, calling them false and misleading.
“The fact is, the Government recognizes the need to improve the working conditions of members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), and we are therefore building two police stations and a Divisional Headquarters in Westmoreland. The planned concrete buildings will replace wooden structures that have fallen into significant disrepair. It’s unfortunate that Hayles has, without merit, used false allegations to paint a positive development in a negative light,” Cuthbert-Flynn said.
According to a release on Monday, Cuthbert-Flynn, who serves as State Minister in the National Security Ministry, further rejected as untrue a claim by Hayles that a cultural centre is to be destroyed to erect the new buildings.
She expressed that the PNP and Hayles should “do better than spreading blatantly deceptive claims to mislead the people of Jamaica.”
The MP also urged PNP President Mark Golding to “curb a tendency by the leadership of his party to make inaccurate and false claims.”
