Ambassador Theresa Roberts was a recent guest at the MJ: The Musical where the lead role of Michael Jackson was played by Kwame Kandekore who has been a regular customer at the Covent Garden branch of Roberts’s Jamaica Patty Co.
Kandekore traces his Jamaican roots via his father. Indeed, Riley is his surname and the family hails from Maverley. He has chosen, however, to use the name Kandekore as a nod to his great-grandfather Menelik Riley who was a Garveyite.
His performance was outstanding and was celebrated with a standing ovation from the audience at the Prince Edward Theatre in London’s West End.
Roberts, who attended with Kandekore’s mother as his guest, commented, “I am extremely proud of this talented young man who has been appearing in the West End from a very young age and has blossomed into one of the brightest stars on the London stage.”
