United Way Ja hosts family fun day
‘My Dad, My Hero’ set for Father’s Day
United Way of Jamaica (UWJ) has planned a special Father’s Day event titled ‘My Dad, My Hero’ Family Fun Day.
The event aims to celebrate fathers as well as raise funds for the organisation’s early childhood initiatives.
UWJ, a non-profit organisation dedicated to transforming lives throughout Jamaica, was established in 1985. The organisation has remained focused on its mission to mobilise resources to transform lives.
UWJ has raised over $2 billion for programmes which support training for early childhood educators that improves early childhood institutions.
The family fun day will be hosted on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Pavilion and Sunken Gardens, Hope Botanical Gardens.
The day’s events begin at 10:00 am with activities running until 4:00 pm.
The event is coupled with an essay competition in which children between the ages of 6-12 are asked to write why their father is their hero. The competition officially ended on June 7, 2024 and winners will be announced at the fun day.
This event is encouraging patrons to spend quality time with their families. Participants can look forward to a day filled with exciting activities and entertainment for everyone.
DJ Collin Hines will host the Tune for Tune Sound Clash among the fathers, while Jenny Jenny will energise the day’s proceedings along with a delicious brunch
UWJ hosts annual fund-raising activities and the organisation saw this year’s Father’s Day celebration as an exceptional opportunity to both celebrate fathers and family while giving Jamaicans the opportunity to give to meaningful work.
The organisation supports outreach assisting the vulnerable and those with special needs as well as disaster relief, restoration efforts, skills training for at-risk youth while helping agencies engaged in the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases.
