RSU reports 13% decrease in road deaths in May 2024
The Island Traffic Authority’s Road Safety Unit (RSU) is reporting a 13 per cent decrease in road fatalities and a 26 per cent fall in fatal crashes during May 2024 when compared with the same month last year.
In its latest monthly statistics, the RSU said the 28 road deaths resulted from 23 fatal crashes with males accounting for 89 per cent of the victims and females 11 per cent.
A breakdown of the fatalities during the month shows that 29 per cent of the victims were motorcyclists, 25 per cent were pedestrians, 14 per cent were drivers of private motor vehicles, seven per cent were passengers of private motor vehicles, and seven per cent were pedal cyclists.
When combined, vulnerable road users (pedestrians, pedal cyclists, motorcyclists and pillion riders) accounted for 64 per cent of the road users killed during May 2024.
