PM Holness expresses sadness at passing of Violet Neilson
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness has expressed sadness at the passing of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Violet Neilson, and praised her contributions to the country.
Neilson died on Tuesday at the age of 93.
In a brief statement following her passing, Holness said, “Former Speaker Neilson led the House at the time of my entry into politics in 1997.”
“Her contribution to Jamaica was marked by her legacy of service in both the civil and public services, as a teacher then later in representational politics, serving the people of St James East Central,” he continued.
“I extend my sincere condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and associates. May her soul rest in peace,” Holness added.
