Attorneys look forward to vindicating Kartel and co-accused
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Following the conclusion of the first day in a scheduled five-day hearing in the appeal matter involving incarcerated deejays Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm, attorneys representing the appellants say they are looking forward to vindicating the men.
Attorney-at-law Alessandra LaBeach, one of the lawyers representing Adijah “Vybz Kartel” Palmer and Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, spoke with Observer Online following the presentation of affidavits in the Court of Appeal on Monday, stating that her clients are eager to have their case dealt with so they can “return to society.”
“Last we spoke, all of the appellants were eager to have the matter dealt with so that the issue of their freedom can be determined. They are eager to return to society and their families, so we are endeavouring to ensure that is attainable,” she said. “We have put in a lot of work and a lot of time in preparing for the matter, and we are endeavouring to put our best foot forward in representing the men and vindicating the men.”
The highly anticipated appeal hearing started on Monday morning. This follows the court’s rejection of an application to release Kartel and his co-accused on May 30.

Kartel, Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John were charged with the September 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
Following Monday’s proceedings, LaBeach said she is satisfied that the issues dealt with thus far will not be detrimental to the appeal process. She expects that the more substantive part of the hearing will begin on Tuesday.
