Second place for three J’cans at NY Grand Prix
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jumpers Carey McLeod and Jordan Scott, along with hurdler Rasheed Broadbell, secured second-place finishes in their respective events at the USATF New York Grand Prix – a Continental Tour Gold event held on Sunday at Icahn Stadium, Randalls Island, New York.
There are serious concerns as two-time Olympic sprint double champion Elaine Thompson-Herah had to be carried off the track after limping home last in the women’s 100m with a time of 11.48 seconds (-2.1m/s). Thompson-Herah, who also finished at the back of the field at the Prefontaine Classic two weeks ago, limped away after crossing the finish line. She then removed her running shoe and threw it down on the track in apparent frustration.
Meanwhile, fresh off his Diamond League win, McLeod achieved a best mark of 7.97m (-0.2m/s) to place second behind American Marquis Dendy, who jumped 8.07m (-0.4m/s). Scott also secured second place in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 16.92m (2.0m/s), narrowly beaten by American Donald Scott’s 16.94m (2.0m/s).
Broadbell, running his second race of the season, clocked 13.28 seconds (-0.8m/s) in the hurdles, while Tyler Mason finished fourth with a time of 13.52 seconds. World Champion Danielle Williams placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with 12.71 seconds (-1.9m/s), and Yanique Thompson finished seventh with 12.94 seconds.
Kadrian Goldson placed fourth in the men’s 100m, which was delayed by two false starts, running 10.30 seconds (-0.7m/s), and Sandrey Davison finished sixth in 10.32 seconds.
Stacey Ann Williams secured third place in the women’s 400m with a time of 50.94 seconds, behind Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s world-leading 48.75 seconds, while Junelle Bromfield was seventh with 52.32 seconds.
Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Kimberly Williamson placed third in the women’s high jump with 1.84m, and national champion Tissanna Hickling finished fifth in the women’s long jump with 6.20m (-1.3m/s). Ashanti Moore was the best-placed Jamaican in the women’s 200m, finishing sixth in 23.13 seconds (-3.1m/s), while Jodean Williams was eighth with 23.49 seconds.
